Increase Your Business Sales Using Google AdWords

Since its release in October 2000, Google AdWords has been considered the industry standard advertising platform. Millions of businesses around the world use Google AdWords to advertise their product, website, video, or app.

In this post, we are going to see how Bill uses Google AdWords to increase online sales.

Increase Business Sales Revenue Using Google AdWords

Before we move on to the technicalities, let's look at the concept again:
  • Bill aims to increase sales by advertising its products to its target audience.
  • The Internet is his advertising space.
  • Google Adwords is the delivery method.
Things Bill needs to do before advertising:

(1) Know what he wants to advertise (his store).
(2) Choose the ad type (text, image, video, dynamic).
(3) Choose ad size and design (upload or create in AdWords)
(4) Set up campaign filters (more on that soon).
(5) Activate the campaign.

Why Advertisers love Google AdWords:

  • You can easily do all this yourself.
  • You can start with a very modest budget.
  • You can reach millions of people.
  • You can launch multiple campaigns at once.
  • You can advertise to a very targeted audience.
  • You can get in-depth statistics about your campaigns.
  • You can advertise in many places on the web.
  • You don't need to search for ad locations yourself.
Two key questions for advertisers

(1) Who is your target audience?
(2) What are your goals?

Only after answering the above questions should you start with your first campaign.

Setting up Campaigns in Google Adwords

Bill Stars named his campaign – "Photography Shop", and as Google recommended – opted to use both Google Search and the Display Network.

This means that Google will display billed ads on Google Search and relevant websites that currently generate revenue using Google Adsense.

Google AdWords campaign settings

(1) Location (country, city, region, postal code).
(2) Language (Select multiple languages or only one).
(3) Devices (desktop, tablet, mobile phone).

If your goal is to drive new customers to your (physical) shop, you should target people in your city, not people from a different state or country. However, this completely changes depending on your target audience and whom you are trying to promote or sell.

If you are advertising your new eBook, which is written in English - you can select English alone in the language options.

Bid strategy and budget in Google AdWords

Ads in the same category or keyword compete against each other in an auction, and the winning ad is visible to the user.

You can either set your own maximum bid amount per click (CPC) or allow AdWords to set a bid amount to increase clicks on your ads.

After this, you have to set your daily budget. So for example if you set it to $10, and your CPC is $1 - it will result in 10 ad clicks.

Bid amounts vary based on competitions, ad type, and many other conditions. As a result, I would recommend allowing new users to set a daily budget and allowing Google AdWords to automatically determine the best bid in order to increase clicks within the daily budget.

Bill's ads on John's blog
After Bill successfully launches his campaign, his ads start appearing on the Google ad network.

Ads can appear on both Google search result pages (for keywords such as camera lens or light) or on related topic websites that display Google Adsense ads (such as John's photography blog).
